This contributed to subsequent fires, including: in 1846, among others, two synagogues, a mikvah and a fence around the Jewish cemetery were destroyed in a fire. In 1870, the Jewish community had 1,399 believers. In 1900, there were 1,167 people, and 962 Jews lived in Głogów itself.
In 1919, anti-Jewish riots broke out in the city, caused by peasants from nearby villages and poor town residents, who looted Jewish shops and houses. In 1921, 648 Jews lived here.
After the outbreak of World War II, Głogów was captured by the Germans. In 1941, the Jewish population from Raczków and surrounding villages, as well as from the vicinity of Kolbuszowa, was resettled here. In 1942, the Germans created a ghetto; they liquidated it in the same year, taking the prisoners to the ghetto in Rzeszów.
The Description
The Jewish kahal in Głogów managed two cemeteries. The older of them was built in 1712, on land acquired from the burgher Paweł Mazanek, in the south-eastern part of the town. Currently it is located at the corner of Sienkiewicza and Topolowa streets (plots no. 861, 860/3, 708/1, 708/2, including part of plot no. 710).
The necropolis was closed for burial in the 1930s. probably due to limited space. During the German occupation, it was destroyed and the matzevas were used as construction material. After 1945, the eastern part was turned into a town park. This area was tidied up and fenced in the years 2012–2014 thanks to the efforts of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage and the Rubin family. At that time, the ohel on the grave of tzadik Alter Mosze Chaim Rubin was also rebuilt, and plaques commemorating tzadiks Menachem Mendel Rubin, Yakov Yosef Rubin and Menachem Mendel Rubin were placed. Today, no tombstones have been preserved, and the western part of the area is overgrown with trees and used as access roads to private properties.
