Kliczków Mały, 45

An example of 19th-century wooden residential architecture.

History

Since the 16th century, the village of Kliczków Mały belonged to the Tarnowski family - nobles from Tarnówka of the Jelita coat of arms. Until the Second World War, there was a mound in the northern part of the manor park - 2 metres high and 50 metres in diameter. It is thought to have been the remnants of the first manor house in this area, which was destroyed by the Germans. Based on archaeological research, it has been established that the island on which the manor house is situated was not constructed until the 17th century and that the manor buildings come from the same period.

The exact date of construction of the present-day manor house is unknown. In the source literature, it is approximately dated to the beginning or the first quarter of the 19th century. During an on-site inspection, carried out by employees of ROBiDZ in Łódź (now the Regional Branch of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage in Łódź), the date 1852 was found on the beams in the southern wall of the building. On the other hand, the available cartographic sources date the manor house to the mid-19th century and that dating has been confirmed by a conducted archival search. Based on the above, it has been concluded that the manor house could not have been built earlier than in the late 1830s. The building was erected by Szczepan Tarnowski or (if the date 1852 is true) by his son, Ignacy. The new building was erected perpendicularly to the previous U-shaped structure. From the north, the manor house was adjoined by a no longer existing outbuilding, probably built at the end of the 19th century. In the 1920s, a porch was added from the east. After the end of the Second World War, the building was used as a school. Currently, it is a private property.

Description

The manor and park complex is situated in the north-eastern part of the village. It stands on an island surrounded by a moat. From the south, there is a wide dyke which provides access to the island. The manor house is surrounded by a park, which extends beyond the island. The park contains a large number of old trees. In the immediate vicinity of the manor house, there is a several hundred-year-old linden tree. The historical building faces east.

not representing any style

It was erected on a rectangular floor plan. It is partly cellared. Its compact, one-storey body is covered with a gable roof with a jerkin head, clad with wood shingles.

The wooden manor house has a log structure with dovetail corners. It is set on a foundation and has a roof truss with a rafter-collar beam structure. The interior walls are covered with plaster.

The front, eastern elevation is covered with weatherboards with ornamentation imitating rusticated masonry. It is seven-axial. The central part is a porch illuminated by large rectangular window openings, above which there are semicircular skylights. The whole is topped by a triangular gable decorated with carved ornamental elements. There are two skylights incorporated in the slope of the roof. The southern elevation has two window openings on the ground floor and one in the attic. It is likewise decorated with weatherboards imitating rusticated masonry.

The northern elevation was for a long time concealed by the annex. Currently, there are two pairs of entrance openings on the ground floor, leading to the terrace. The attic on this side is lighted by a window. The western elevation has two window openings and a hall on the axis.

The interior is two-bay, with a hallway in the central part.

The building can be viewed from outside upon prior arrangement with the owner.
