In 1797, the first Boulton & Watt steam engine was installed in it being the first one on the European continent. This technology allowed to pump groundwater to surface reservoirs and then to the city through a pipeline, which was the first such system not only in the history of Tarnowskie Góry, but also on a global scale. This site plays a vital historical role in the use of steam pumps to drain underground water and supply water to the local communities.
